A zone designated by the Dubai Land Department where non-UAE / non-GCC nationals can own property outright (rather than leasehold). Freehold gives you full title, the right to sell, lease, or pass to heirs. Most of Dubai's investment-grade inventory is in freehold zones.
Can foreigners own property in Dubai?
Yes — but only in designated freehold zones (and select "long lease" areas with 99-year terms). Outside freehold areas, foreigners can typically only rent or take a short leasehold. Every Dubai project on OffplanCompare is in a freehold zone.
How is freehold different from leasehold in Dubai?
Freehold = you own the property outright, forever, with full title. Leasehold = you pay an upfront premium for the right to use the property for a fixed term (typically 30–99 years). When the lease ends, the property reverts to the landowner. For investment purposes freehold is materially better.
Do I need residency to buy freehold property in Dubai?
No. Anyone can purchase freehold property in Dubai — you don't need a residency visa. Conversely, buying property worth AED 2M+ does qualify you for the 10-year Golden Visa.
